In the late 1950s,Ed Cole, Chevrolet’s chief engineer, defined the Impala as a  luxury car when reaching the average American citizen.
From 1958 to 1996, Impala sales were over 13 million, more than any other full size car in automotive history.The Impala name was originally designed to be used in full screen 1956 GM Motorama show car for the Corvette-esque design elements that have contributed greatly to the network. Painted emerald green metallic with white interior, the Impala featured Hardtop styling. It is not known to have survived.
